The Ultimate PS Vita is a combination of lots of different existing mods. I wanted to make a PS Vita that was completely loaded out with mods. I wanted to experiment with advanced hardware mods as well as software mods.
Inspirations

Early V1 Design

The earliest design for The Ultimate PS Vita had a custom paint job featuring Batman. This did not turn out very good. It was obviously hand painted, and the paint pens caused some wrinkle marks. I installed a USB-C port next to the original charging port. This was wired up to a separate charging board. So, it completely bypassed all the charging circuitry on the PS Vita. I installed an SD2Vita to expand the storage. This design also had a larger battery. I installed a USB-A port to charge other devices off of the larger battery. This was a strange idea that only had very specific use cases, and the positioning of the port made it very uncomfortable to hold. I also removed the cameras because I never used them, and I was taking this apart and putting it back together so many times that I just got tired of dealing with them.

Final V1 Design
The final design is much simpler. There’s no paint job and no USB-A port awkwardly sticking out of the side. I also moved the USB-C port to the top to replace the “mystery port” that was never used. It still runs off of a separate charging board which is not ideal, but an upgraded board may provide quicker charging speeds. I put a kill switch where the USB-C port originally was. This didn’t end up working out because the switch was too small, and it would overheat. I should have used a MOSFET, but there wasn’t much room left anyways. So, I ended up bridging the connection, and now the switch does not do anything. I also switched to a PSVSD instead of the SD2Vita. This allows me to use physical game cartridges while still being able to use Micro SD cards.

The MK.1 Dock
The dock is very simple. I used a Raspberry Pi 3B+ because I wanted to have a full size HDMI port. I designed a dock for it that looks like the one that the Nintendo Switch uses. Then I used command strips to stick the Raspberry Pi to the back of the 3D printed dock.
