MK.1 Webshooters [RSMWSMK.1]

The MK.1 webshooter project was the first project to ever be featured on the Porkula channel. It went through many iterations, and it never quite worked the way I was hoping. However, it was definitely a learning experience.

Inspirations

Early MK.1 Design

The earliest design for the MK.1 used a solenoid valve. However, once the C02 cartridge was screwed in, it just blew through the valve. The spool I designed for the kevlar rope was also not very good. It was meant to wrap around in a figure 8 shape, but this wouldn’t have unspooled very well. There was also never any wrist mount designed for this version.

Final MK.1 Design

The final design for the MK.1 uses a C02 bike pump instead of a solenoid valve. This is a design many have used before, but I mounted the pump to the other side of my arm. This was so that it wouldn’t be too bulky, and the weight would be distributed more evenly. I used a roofing harness and some nylon webbing to connect the webshooters to my body. This made it easier to swing because I wouldn’t be able to hold onto the kevlar rope.

MK.1 Chemical Web Cartridge

The problem that a lot of webshooters have is that they either shoot actual fluid, or they are basically a wrist mounted grappling gun. My solution to this issue was to have 2 different cartridges. The chemical web cartridge was essentially a tube with a plunger at the end that would push the fluid out when the C02 was released.

Web Fluid

The web fluid that I created for the chemical cartridge was extremely simple. It’s just a mixture of cornstarch, soap, and a little bit of water. The web fluid didn’t have to be complicated because I already had the grappling cartridge.
