[YTP] Batman Is Not the Hero Gotham Deserves
Summary
This is a full 70mm IMAX remaster of one of my favorite YTPs of all time, “Batman Is Not the Hero Gotham Deserves” by AlpacaHawk. I saw this YTP around the time it first came out, and I’ve been quoting it ever since. Unfortunately, this particular YTP has some issues with the audio. The volume is all over the place to the point where it’s difficult to hear what certain characters are saying. Also, due to it’s age, the video quality is pretty poor. So, what better way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday than with a full remaster of one of the most important pieces of American culture.
The Remaster Process
The audio was pretty straight forward. I just adjusted the volumes on a scene by scene basis. Then, I put a compressor on it. Then, I duplicated the whole track and isolated the vocals on the new track to boost them up a little more.
For the video side of things, I started by using the full 70mm remaster of the film from u/teymourbeydoun on Reddit. This allowed me to use the full frame IMAX sequences. I tried to replicate AlpacaHawks cuts to the exact frame. However, I can’t guarantee full accuracy to the original because I’m using 24fps while the original is in 30fps. All VFX shots have been completely remade with motion tracking. All of the fonts used are accurate (to my eyes at least).
Conclusion
This project has given me a lot of perspective on the YTP community and the sheer amount of work that goes into something like this. This is only 10 minutes long, but it’s extremely dense with editing and jokes. YTPs aren’t really considered art, but I think they should be because this, and many other YTPs, use a lot of clever editing techniques. I think part of this is due to necessity because you’re obviously constrained by the source materials, but as people tend to say, constraints often force you to be creative.
